Big companies are changing their minds

Surprisingly and in the good direction, some companies are becoming aware of the problem with plastic and are trying to change things for the better.

I have recently become familiar with small initiatives by big firms which have truly gained my respect.

Renova

Renova, a company that sells toilet paper among other products has decided, the same year of its 200 year aniversary, start packaging its products using paper instead of plastic; naking it posible for us to now find its products in various supermarkets in Spain.

If only Renova was setting a real precedent…

Bosque Verde

I was also happy to discover that "Bosque Verde", the brand of cleaning products that Mercadona sells, has launched compostable bags, an extremely valuable product given the excessive amount of rubbish we all produce.
Compostable bags are made of biodegradable ingredients which disappear with time in contact with soil and other organical products.
They are sold in a small size (9 litres) since they briodegradate pretty quickly when they have our organical dumps inside.
Currently they are being sold in packets of 15 units only, but I want to believe that with time, as more and more people buy them we will be able tu purchase them in bigger amounts and lower prices.

Ecovegetaria

Whenever we order take away food we are used to getting it in plastic containers (many of which we can temporarily reuse until they fall to pieces). But, how about if we got food in nicely prepared cardboard boxes?
It has been a while since Ecovegetaria in Palma of Majorca redies its take-away orders in these cute boxes.
A hurra for one of the first restaurants to do so in Palma.

Yogures El Pastoret de la Segarra

Ever since this company was born, almost ten years ago they sell their yogurts in cardboard buckets.
I had stopped buying yogurt in the small plastic containers, but I really enjoyed discovering this new brand the other day when I did my shopping at the SUMA supermarket.
The flavour of this yogurt is the most natural I have tried so far. Exceptionally good.
