Ecological entrepeneurs (English Version)
Since the Balearic Islands are becoming more and more international, I have decided to start publishing my posts both in English and in Spanish.
I already posted about La Granoteca and Es20deBonaire, two groceries in Palma which already sell products in bulk.
Today I am writing about an initiative that I have recently discovered and that is great. I am referring to the start-up "Senseplastic" ("Withoutplastic") (they are still working on their website : http://senseplastic.com/). According to Google Maps they already have three shops in Majorca and it will hopefully keep growing, because I think the idea is indeed interesting.
A couple of days ago I was at an Ecolaundry in Palma when I realised there was this Senseplastic shop kind of embedded to it. I had always thought it was the same business. I checked it up for a while and what they do really deserves one's attention. They sell refillable cleaning products. This is, you can bring your bottles or buy some there and fill them at a sort of suppliers/pumps. Another variant of what is already referred to globally as zero-waste.
It is an intelligent idea, and I do hope it keeps explanding. Let's see if it sets an example for supermarkets, which could, in turn, start lobbying for these ideas or even change suppliers, since options are actually there.
I think it is about time that Spain and the European Union invest in prizes to help support this type of initiatives.
