Real Decreto 293/2018 and Ley de residuos 2020
The National Act 293/2018 regarding the reduction of plastic bags (http://www.boe.es/buscar/doc.php?id=BOE-A-2018-6651) was enforced on July 1st in Spain. According to this new law, shops can no longer offer plastic bags to their customers for free.
This new piece of regulation gets here in the same year where the Government of the Balearic Islands
released a bill for the new Waste Law that is planned to be enforced in 2020.
In January, broadcasters and newspapers presented this law project (http://www.caib.es/govern/sac/fitxa.do?codi=3406506&coduo=919&lang=ca) which aims for grocery shops and supermarkets to stop selling single-use plastic products (such as coffee pods, ear swabs, plates, cutlery…) by the year 2020 or having to pay a waste tax from that moment on.
The forthcoming law addresses other issues such as the discard of food which isn't decayed but which has reached the date for its safe consumption; and the incineration of waste, while favouring other options such as compost.
