Mmmmm… Coffee is the secret pleasure of a lot of us. But as much as I enjoy its flavour, I must point out here how polluting its production is. Letting, however, this problem aside; we hve to be aware that coffee became much more polluting when it started being sold in those cute but dangerous coffee pods. In early july, this summer, I first got acquainted with the reusable coffee pods . Personally, I think it's a great idea. They are a kind of strainers of the size of the pods by Nespresso, Dolce Gusto, and other brands; which won't be discarded, but reused instead, since they can be refilled as many times as one wants. The pods can be found in different materials and at a reasonable price. On the website DHgate.com, they are selling the one bellow, for instance. Mmmmm… Café, ese placer secreto de muchos de nosotros. Pero, por mucho que me guste, tengo que señalar que su producción es muy contaminante. Dejando este problema de lado por el momento, ya que en este blog nos ocupamos del plástico; cabe destacar que el mercado del café se volvió mucho más contaminante con la entrada, en éste, de las bonitas aunque peligrosas cápsulas. A principios de este verano supe de las cápsulas de café reutilizables . Me pareció una muy buena idea. Son unos filtros del tamaño de una cápsula Nespresso o Dolce Gusto normal pero que no se desechan, sino que pueden recargarse. Las hay de diferentes materiales y a muy buen precio. The National Act 293/2018 regarding the reduction of plastic bags ( http://www.boe.es/buscar/doc.php?id=BOE-A-2018-6651 ) was enforced on July 1st in Spain. According to this new law, shops can no longer offer plastic bags to their customers for free . This new piece of regulation gets here in the same year where the Government of the Balearic Islands released a bill for the new Waste Law that is planned to be enforced in 2020. In January, broadcasters and newspapers presented this law project ( http://www.caib.es/govern/sac/fitxa.do?codi=3406506&coduo=919&lang=ca ) which aims for grocery shops and supermarkets to stop selling single-use plastic products (such as coffee pods, ear swabs, plates, cutlery…) by the year 2020 or having to pay a waste tax from that moment on. El 1 de Julio entró en vigor el Real Decreto 293/2018 sobre la reducción del consumo de bolsas de plástico ( http://www.boe.es/buscar/doc.php?id=BOE-A-2018-6651 ), que entre otras cosas prohíbe la entrega gratuita de bolsas de plástico en todos los comercios en España. Este decreto llega el mismo año que el gobierno de las Islas Baleares presenta el proyecto de la nueva ley de residuos prevista para el 2020, información que llega varios meses tarde a mi blog. Ya publiqué sobre la Granoteca y Es20deBonaire, dos tiendas que venden comestibles a granel en Palma. Logo Senseplastic Hoy quería escribir sobre una iniciativa que he descubierto estos días y que me ha parecido estupenda, hablo de la empresa "Senseplastic" (su web todavía está en construcción: http://senseplastic.com/ ). I am most probably exceeding the limits of my knowledge but today I would like to make a call to those big corporations with the power to decide how many containers have to coat their products and what type of containers they sell their products in . I hope they understand we cannot go on like this. There are options that deserve an opportunity. I would also like to address in this plea to reason the big plastic manufacturers of the world (Xiamen Xintonglian Plastic Co., Dow Chemical, Lyondell Basell, Exxon Mobil, SABIC, INEOS, BASF, ENI, LG Chem, Chevron Phillips, Lanxess, ...) I have no doubt your materials have tens of useful applications and that you all care for environment and sustainability at least up to a certain level marked by law, but I really think you are the ones with the power to reconsider the raw materials you use, especially in the manufacturing of those products that you sell and that you know have a limited useful life.
